I use the finger test - mount lens and hood, point at desk lamp,
position lamp in corner of viewfinder - is there any drop in
intensity as you move it from near centre to corner? Then push finger
over hood edge toward corner - at what point does the finger shadow
become visible in the finder? Immediately or well in?
Great science hey what?! With this type of hood on a 24mm there was a
reasonable amount of (finger) wriggle room which leads me to suggest
that halving the depth of the rim section should get you clear of the
edge of field on a 21mm. Or dremmelling cutouts (for those murkins
who love creating verbs) at the four corners.
