I really like your use of background and juxtaposition.

Subject: [OM] Workshop photos

A few weeks back I did a street photography workshop organised by
Tate Modern and in-public.com website (well worth a visit if you like
that kind of thing). The workshop was split into two sessions of two
or three hours each; the first was a slideshow lecture by four of the
photographers who run / contribute to the in-public website. We then
had two weeks to go out and take some photos, which were discussed
and edited down in the second session. I've uploaded what I came up
with at:

http://homepage.mac.com/royalljames/James_Galleries/PhotoAlbum37.html

They were all taken during lunch time sorties from work, which is at
one end of Oxford Street. I used to live five minutes walk from it
and spent as little time on it as possible (for those that have never
visited it's one long shopping mecca, with the whole range of socio-
economic strata represented) - treating it like a river in winter;
crossing as quickly as possible and certainly trying to never walk
along it mid-stream. The routine of heading out every day for two
weeks with a camera forced me to appreciate what I had previously
missed; seeing the same people doing the same things every day,
whether preachers, the homeless or teenagers with the drive to sell
their music direct to the public, stopping people and asking 'do you
like rap?' - I hope they make it; slowly recognising the subtly
character of different sections reflected in the types walking the
pavements. I really enjoyed having the motivation of a deadline to
come up with some results and, like Bill Barber, would really
recommend joining classes / courses etc, to focus (ha!) the mind - we
don't all have Graham's in-built persistence.

All photos were taken with the E-300 with either the 14-54 or the old
24mm.

James
