It seems to be age and environment. I have had very few problems
with foam, but some people who live in hotter climes have. A non-N
model will be older than an N model, so foam rubber will tend to have
deteriorated to a greater degree in the older model.
Someone will be able to tell you how to deal with problem foam on the
prism.
