You're slightly off.  According to the US National Institute of 
Standards and Technology, 1 inch = 25.4 millimeters exactly (well at 
least to 7 decimal places).  I have always remembered this number since 
I have always been amazed that it only takes 3 digits for an exact 
conversion.
