[OM] Is there such a thing as a 'later version'

Hi all,

Found this in *bay, advertising a 135 4.5 (7542545664):

'This is the later version of this lens when Olympus began standardizing the
front lens ring nomenclature (135mm instead of f=135mm).'

Would this imply something else than a change in the front ring
nomenclature?
