It is quite likely that even if they don't use diodes to make the units
polarity insensitive, they use themm for isolating multiple flashes off of the
multiple connectors (hot shoe vs pc cord).
I am not sure if Jeff or somebody's comments did not imply that ?
In cameras they sometimes do this as well.
If you add a diode in series with each output, you can accomodate different
flashes with different voltages and still trigger them all correctly but it
does mean they don't get pulled down as low as without them.
