The memory function stores the shutter speed setting. If you spot meter
and then want to take a series of photos using the same settings, for
example, use the MEM function then. No need on the 3/3Ti, of course --
if you want to keep the same settings you just don't change anything as
it won't try DIY anyway.

It's the same on mine. There are two versions of this lens. Mine is the
earlier version. My father has the later version. I expect it's the same
on the later version.
