The 20D comes with software called "EOS Remote" that does what you 
describe.  It may come with higher end Canons as well but is not 
available from Canon for the 300D, 350XT, 10D, etc.

For something that works with all Canon DSLR's and has more function you 
might want to try DSLR Remote Pro from Breeze Systems who also make 
Breeze Browser and Downloader Pro (products which I use and enjoy)  See:
