It depends on if you think the singular is chile, chili or chilli. I
think of chile as being the country so that's why I don't spell it
that way. Dictionary.com lists the entymology as being from the
Spanish chile so that leads credence to you but that's from the
Nahuatl chilli which goes back to my spelling.
