 From your description, unfortunately, it sounds as if the problem is 
much more than the regular problem caused by greasy latches.  In this 
case it sounds like the second curtain has (possibly) jumped out of it's 
gear position (and because it is spring loaded).....unwound itself.  A 
very big job requiring complete disassembly. Commonly seen on 2S's, 
usually caused by impact damage. It's hard to tell without seeing it.
