Scott,

A useful site for asking questions about specific scanners is at this
link
http://www.halftone.co.uk/tech/filmscan/menu.htm#index

There is also a mailing list which has always been helpful. Hope that it
helps.

Regards and Happy New Year,
Stylianos

Scott,
there are some slightly weird things about these scanners to
do with insering the film to the right position etc. which cause them to
appear not to be working properly. I can't quite remember the issues but
I know it always takes me a while to get mine "working". Sometimes the
driver seems to not initialise properly. Fiddle around with how deep
the film is inserted maybe. I think the stack loader always works
correctly? They do have a stepper motor failure mechanism, but I
beleive if they did not have an early failure with this problem, they
are likely ok in the long term. This would seem to apply to your unit!.
Vuescan works so much better than Nikonscan to drive these and may be
more XP compatible if using windows. Also seem to remember it is quite
important to get the right Scsi driver off the adaptec website. I got a
very generic cheap Adaptec card that worked well with mine. The
compatibility of the latest scsi cards does not allways seem so good
with older
 low
bandwidth generic devices. Focus issues may be due to damage in
transport , I have not had any trouble with that, despite transporting
mine unlocked. I downloaded a variety of useful tips off of the web
after a lot of searching, when I first got mine, Nikon is not at all
helpful

If there's better forum for these questions, please point me there.

I recently sold a Nikon LS2000 scanner. Bought it a while back from a
respected repair tech, tried it once and realized I needed more
computer horsepower to do it right and packed it away 'til I sold it.

Buyer is having lock-up and focus problems. Anyone familiar with how
to fix 'em? I aghast that I sent problems to someone else.

Side note . . . he initially operated it with the bottom transport
screw in place. Could that have caused the problems?

TIA!/ScottGee1
