Chris; Oh Well - you just had to be there, mate.

At the time (1970's) those Monaros had more street presence, more power, 
more looks, than a lot of cars. Even though they are "just" a GM product.
The Chrysler Charger was somewhat similar.

I have "no"  idea how they handled. 

I made do with my Peugeot 404 KF2 (fuel injected) which looked like a 
Morrie Oxford, but would get 100 mph from 1618cc.  That was "my" Q-car. 
Handled well and was superbly comfortable.

Now I drive a 1983 Toyota Starlet 3-door 1300cc and am happy.
