It's thiry years since I developed colour transparency film, Wayne, and
believe me, I did it then with very little experience! Not E-6. but
Ferraniacolor (then a 3M company) using re-exposure of the developed film,
rather than a chemical bath, for the reversal part of the process. I can
assure you that handling six feet of wet film (taken out of the spiral!) was
by far the worst part of the whole thing - temperature control was
relativelt the easy part, given a large enough bath of water at the
appropriate temperature.

The E6 process does not require re-exposure! If you are faced with no lab
to process E6, do not be put off trying to do it yourself. But don't do it
to save money.

For my money, I would choose SS reels, by the way.

Actually, the mounting part isn't what would scare me away, but the
processing part. I've never done any sort of film developing, so I have no
idea what I'd need or how to go about it. Not being quite a senior yet, I
suppose there is a chance I could learn, if someone were to steer me in the
right direction for beginning.

I've looked just a litle bit at developing tanks, but quickly got bogged
down in the differing opinions about whether plastic or stainless is best.
That's about the point where I gave up.

As to the same day service, it's not that that I miss so much, but the
almost inevitable conclusion of losing that is that I'll probably soon lose
local E6 altogether. I wouldn't mind doing my own even if it means
refrigerating the exposed film for a few weeks or even months. Part of the
fun of shooting film, that I miss with digital, is the delay in seeing
results.
