Hi Bruce:
I had a Pelican hard case long ago, as with most hard cases - great
protection, lousy for practical use in the field and limiting as to
versatility in what you take and how you get to it. I have gone through a
few different options, and from advise garnered on the list over a year ago
on this topic I bought a Domke F6 (thanks to Skip who dug one up and shipped
it to me from B&H) that has proven to be my very favorite, offering the best
blend of utility, padding, versatility and compactness- it is a photog's
bag. At that same time I bought a Billington 'Presstop' Bag that is very
well made, larger and the one I use for travel (recommended by Chris)
finally I recently bought a LowePro Backpack for Skiing, hiking etc. No one
bag would do it all, if I had to choose just one it would be the Domke F6
with the Billington a close second, the Domke is only about $80. but I use
it the most, the Billington is 5 times the price, much higher quality and
offers more protection though, it looks good too (panache), the trade-off is
it's a bit larger in size and has a little less ease of use in the field.
