Since they seem to have just recently discovered this I assume that they 
will get it repaired.  But I don't assume that Nikon repairs get turned 
around any faster than those done by John and Clint.  Takes awhile to 
get through the queue.

Whether sample variation makes any sense in this particular case I don't 
know.  However, there certainly is sample variation around... witness 
Andrew's 14-45 results with a lens you'd have thought might have been 
cherry picked from the line.
