Nope, you need a driver. My card reader came with one.
For some USB functions, W98 doesn't work at all, and you need to upgrade
to 98SE. There are external drives of various sorts that work with SE,
but not plain 98.
None of it matters to me any more since the old laptop went to live with
my brother and the new one runs XP.
