I suspect the mount must be machined to take the paint spots. Else  
the paint would rub off about the third time you mounted the lens.  
And it is not a bad price by the spot.  :-)

Although just entering the focal length and widest F-stop the way  
Nikon does for manual focus lenses seems easier if not as elegant.
