I guess the definition of "field" changes one's viewpoint. Tramping
around France and Britain for a month alters my perception of a small
modern laptop from "useful" to "useful...as a boat anchor." When I
schlep camera equipment around, I already feel like I have too much crap
that can sometimes get in the way of the pure experience. My wife can
attest to how cranky I get.

So, 4 Gigs of CF cards (around 380 shots on an E-1, 450 or so with the
A-1) can quite conceivably be exceeded in a month, though, in the good
ol' days of film, my shooting style would be different -- many's the
time both I and my wife thought about taking the shot, only to have me
realize that my supply of pro film was dwindling and we had another week
to go on a trip, so another shot was foregone (usually a good decision,
since something far more amazing showed up later). My shooting style's
definitely changed with digital, since the per-shot marginal cost is
effectively zero, and with mass storage options you have unlimited
amounts of "film."

I'm hoping to get a *lot* more images this trip. ;-) And if I wanna
keep in touch, there's always Internet cafés. You gotta sit down and
have a coffee occasionally anyways, and there's not always good street
life to watch while you do...
