I had been using my Windoze machine to delete images on my Sandisk Extreme III
1gig card. I had also copied PS modified files to it to take to a Wallymart for
some quick prints. I noticed some of my prints were missing data. I put them in
my camera and they did not match the faulty ones the Wallymart person helping
me was seeing on her machine. I inexplicably began losing just shot images on
it. Soon afterward my hard drive also died. I've since decided to err on the
side of caution and since then I have only copied files then formatted the card
in my E-500 immediately afterwards. My shots surpassing Ansel Adams (or the
borg conglomerate masquerading as GeeBee) shots were lost to posterity :)

A while back, I bought a couple used CF cards. Popped one into my 20D
and pressed the review button. Hey! Some pix from the previous owner
were still on it. I made some test shots then put the card into the
reader on my computer.
According to EXIF, the pix shot by the previous owner were shot with a
Fuji S2. My test shots were in a C@non folder and came out just fine.
I was puzzled and had read enough about formatting problems with cards
that I just reformatted them in my camera and haven't had a problem
since then.
