I find the angle finder to be "useful" also.  In fact, I use one 
almost 100% when shooting from a tripod even when using AF 
lenses.  Also, I get best results when manual focusing when I am 
using one along with the Brightscreen split image screen.  I just 
don't find it to be the "slam dunk" that was indicated in the 
referenced post, especially when used with the standard focusing screen.  YMMV
