I have a cheapo Epson C84 (4 pigment inks) which makes very nice prints
and has never clogged once in the approx 1-1/2 years that I've had it.
I got it to replace an HP 1100 PhotoPrinter (dyes) that always clogged
the red cartridge. Sometimes I could get the clog unclogged by running
through numerous cleaning cycles, a couple of times I had no alternative
but to replace the red cartridge. It was particularly sensitive to low
humidity (25-30% here in the winter even with the humidifiers running).
Many of the prints it produced are now showing very significant fading
even though not subjected to strong light.
I'm glad to be rid of it and will never own another HP printer. The
little Epson at 1/3 the price does superior work and never clogs. No
signs of fading either even on the oldest prints. I think the C84 has
been replaced at least once by a later model.
