I'm concerned about this as well, and I live down here in the
You-Ess-of-Aye.

My wife and I are scheduled to take a cruise out of Miami in December.
I planned on taking the E1 and two DZ lenses, plus flash. I also
planned on taking my new MacBook Pro (which I plan on acquiring in
October) for photos and shipboard internet stuff.

There's no way in hell that I'm going to check $2000 worth of camera and
$3000 worth of computer. Nope. Ain't gonna happen. Hell, I had a
nice, colorful Hooters Air luggage tag cut off my suitcase in either
Santo Domingo, DR or San Juan, PR this past Junt...think they won't
swipe $5k worth of electronics? Or simply throw them hard enough that
they'll be unusable at the other end? Not to mention that I suffer from
sleep apnea and always carry a cpap machine on vacation so i can sleep.
That ain't getting checked, either. The other option is to pack all
my stuff in large carboard cartons, foamed in place. Sure, it will
require a delivery truck on the other end.

And I'm not shooting the whole damn vacation with cardboard disposable
cameras.

It's a 20-hour drive to Miami from Chicago. We're seriously considering
packing up the Honda Insight and driving down there. It's the drive
back that's gonna really suck, since we'll get home about an hour before
we have to go into work...
