Man, that's awful Wayne.

Two weeks ago a 30-year-old friend of mine was killed on his Ducati on
Chinook Pass. Drunk driver with multiple DUIs pulled a U-turn. That was a
sad funeral too. The hardest thing was listening to his father, an older
man, just sobbing.

Unfortunately what gets the press in these stories is the danger of
motorcycles, not the arrogance, stupidity and blindness of American drivers.

Riding in Italy and France I felt much safer--people there actually know how
to drive, and are courteous and alert. I'm sure there are angry, drunk or
otherwise idiotic drivers there as well, but we sure didn't see any.

And Jim, we'll put in a word upstairs for Gary.

Me, the relentless reminders of the danger lately--not to mention one random
mechanical failure that led to a high-side and broken rib--have gotten to
me, and I've lost my nerve. I'm selling my two big bikes, and taking a break
over the winter and will re-evaluate in the spring...after BMW's new bikes
with traction control debut....
