One of us, man, one of us. Welcome aboard. Collect your free straitjacket at
the
hatcheck and come right in.

Speaking of coming aboard, I have a confession to make. Thanks to AG for not
outing me sooner, but my E-1 arrived on Friday, the OM adapter on Saturday, and
the 2Gig card should arrive next week. limping along with a 256Meg card at the
moment.

I'd already more or less decided a couple of months ago, but spending a few
hundred quid on frivolous expenditure is like walking down the high street in
pink sparkly underwear to me, just something that I would never do. Well, not
often (!) anyway.

My good wife is calm about the E-1. She would be less calm about the underwear.
So that's alright then.

Came with the 14-45, but to me this is a bit of a freebie. Only really thinking
of the 11-22 and maybe something a little longer in terms of autofocus. This is
based on the things I generally shoot, most of the time I will be quite happy
to
do the manual stop-down thing. I'm sloooooow...

First impressions of actually owning one are very favourable. I already
understand histograms a lot better than I did on Thursday, and despite not
having been outside with the camera yet I have been trying a few things out.
It's a fine solid machine, I find focusing easy with manual lenses, certainly
up
to 4.5 max aperture, so that is one of my big concerns disposed of. File size
and quality is more than enough for any use I have.

Controls are wonderfully placed, I had most of the stuff sorted by Saturday
night, in spite of being out all day Saturday visiting. And training event in
Adult Literacies on Friday night. So time with the camera has been limited, but
the learning curve has been manageable so far.

A very useful addition to my kit, first major outing will probably be the
Duxford Autumn Air Display in October. I'll be practicing a lot before that.

D.
