That's fair enough. Olympus has not done enough to come out in the open and
say the things they know. And in my mind, they do know what they're talking.

On many occasions while I was working there, we have this problem with
countless people - including me - who would jump to a point, knowing we were
correct but we left out the explanations because many of us felt that it was
so tedious in explaining it. Wrong of course but in an intense discussion,
this sometimes happens. And so you go back and spend the next ten hours
filling in the gaps and then people eventually would say, "oh, I see...".
This problem seems common with us then.
At this point from what I know of the sensor development, Olympus is not a
customer per se. They contributed to the development that goes on at Kodak
with the KAF-51xxx as well as Panasonic and one other manufacturer. The
extent of the contribution is of course not something they're willing to
talk about though.
I remember not too long ago that when Olympus came out and said that with
Four Thirds, the limit is 31Mpix. You should have been there to see all of a
sudden, we have "experts" coming out from the woodwork and contest the issue
with Olympus. What did Olympus do to respond? Hahahaha.....they just kept
quiet and I'm pretty sure I know why too....they didn't want to explain it.
In their mind, it's "you'll just wait and see...."
I'm not saying that Olympus' manner of response is right or wrong. That's
the way Olympus tends to be. Having worked for them for that many years, I'm
kinda used to their way of dealing with information....

As to the limits imposed by physical laws, I think you are likely wrong,

Moose, you're damn right. i'm glad you're saying it and not me....
I did say I had terminated my contributions to this particular thread but
seeing your response, I wanted to read what you had to say. I'm more than
happy to support your observation.

I'm sure it's more than just the sensor, the whole imaging system.

Very very very true. Olympus' idea to the implementation of photo sensor is
fully based on a "systems" approach, meaning that when a new sensor is
introduced, they do far more than just plug the new one in and throw the old
out. A lot more goes into specifying and using a new photo sensor.
Yes again - there is room for improvements but Olympus is catching up now.

I won't comment on that except to say that the E-3's photo sensor will not
be coming from Kodak. You might be surprised who's sensor Olympus will be
using though.
