I'm not sure what you are trying to say but man does have the ability to
control the destiny of many animals. Does that mean we are on top? Our
mistakes with management of domestic animals and wildlife have been many and
some have been disastrous. Animals of all kinds are the most healthy when an
equilibrium is achieved such that the big swings in population don't occur.
Both man and nature do things to thwart that ideal. In the area of wildlife,
we now have specialists that know to achieve healthy populations of many
game animals that are well matched with available food sources.
Unfortunately, in the US, those specialists are not the people who make the
decisions because unknowledgeable but powerful groups exert pressure on the
Congress to override the experts. Urban sprawl is reducing habitat for many
species and is very hard to stop. Mike mentioned trophy homes as a problem
and that is really true in many scenic places. I was climbing a mountain the
other day and met a man working for the Nature Conservancy. He is working
with the ranchers in the Centennial Valley of Montana to prevent that from
becoming a next target for trophy home builders. It's refreshing to see some
people trying hard to do the right things but it's a never-ending battle.
Some countries have simply killed off most of their wildlife and I would
hate to see the US get to that point. Some people think high gasoline prices
might concentrate people back into the cities and stop the trend to commute
long distances to work. Today I drove up a mountain to about 9000 feet
elevation and took a long hike into the back country. I saw many varieties
of birds, a coyote, and a moose, and saw the tracks and scat of cougars,
bobcats, elk, and bears. I hope faulty management practices don't wipe out
my ability to keep doing that and even getting an occasional photograph.

The biggest 'screwing' with 'Father' Nature has been by far the
human.. and mainly his self-produced ideologies which are taken for
granted today, that somehow he's on top of all other animals and
things.
