Gary Fong goes to great lengths to "prove" the benefits of shooting
JPG for pretty much everything. I rarely shoot RAW.
The main selling point of BalanceSmart over the Photovision's Digital
Calibration Target is the center mark for AF. Not a big deal to me as
I don't care if calibration color is in sharp focus and am usually in
the ballpark anyway. And I prefer the black/grey/white of the
Photovision's product to determine contrast range. See:

For everything else, I use an Expodisc. It's compact and can be used
discreetly -- unlike the folding targets. I disagree with Will's
assertion that it "really only does a marginal job." (The grammatical
error is his as are the others on that page.) Expodisc has saved me
countless hours of post-processing.
