[OM] Vagabonder E-1s return to mainland

I won't talk too much out of school here, since not all
participants have returned home yet. I haven't either, but
thanks to splattering wifi coverage outside of a hotel, I can at
least take a peak at mail.

Nice to see that the list survived somewhat in my absence. Now
straighten up everybody. First thing that greeted me was Tom
Scale's message. I'm not to proud to say that I did shed a
tear. What a shock. The Scales are a very special family and my
one regret is never having the opportunity to meet Debbie in
person. I have talked with her on the phone, but never met her.

The island adventure was a success. It's probably safe to say
that this was the greatest concentration of E-gear outside of
Walt's camera bag. All four of us were sporting the E-1 with a
nice collection of lenses present. The 7-14 got handed around
but never left the gaze of Bill's ever watchful eye. Attempts
to "accidently" swap it with a 14-54 or something like that were
tried by each of us. I did learn that when doing "macro" with
that lens that "objects in viewfinder are closer than they
appear". You quickly learn the art of placing a finger on the
end of the lens shade to use for bumping up against the object
being photographed and not the protruding lens itself.

Contrary to popular belief, it only rained one day while any of
us were on the island and that was actually at night. My first
night we actually had an incredible solar storm and the sky was
full-dome red. No patterns, but it was bright enough to almost
read by.

Bill's snoring successfully kept most of the wildlife away.
Moose on the east-end were essentially non-existent. But we DO
have a tribute photo for "Moose". :)

The weather was beautiful--mostly dry with fits of obscene wind.
Oh wait, that's the chili talking. But we did get winds strong
enough to kick up some serious chop in the harbors and delay the
ferry boats. Some day, once the bruised body and feelings have
healed, we'll talk about canoes--but not yet.

The E-1s performed perfectly, except.... I need to bug the
Canonazis about cleaning sensors. I found a couple specs on my
sensor--when using Bill's F-180 pinhole lens. Oh, the
humanity...

BTW, the Canon backpack is NOT waterproof. Just thought I'd
pass that little tidbit on.

The experience of shooting with a small group of fellow
Olympoids was really awesome. It's probably safe to say that
outside of Olympus' factories or warehouses, there has ever been
such a concentration of E-1s and accessories. A rather
impressive sight.

Gotta run. Another state to go.
