I've been using mostly Sears Diehard unless the car was bought with
something else in it. Haven't had a battery failure in either car for
over 35 years. That includes 15 years in Endicott and Woodstock, New
York where 25-30 F below 0 is not uncommon and 10 years in Boca Raton,
FL where it's summertime heat for 6 months out of the year. But I have
to admit to a particular strategy for the past 10 years or so. If the
battery's warranty period is coming to an end during the upcoming winter
I will change the battery in the fall before the cold weather sets in.
The cost of a lost 4 or 5 months of possible good service on a 5 or 6
year warranty is trivial in comparison to the cost (and aggravation) of
a service call when you're stranded in a snow storm.
