Martyn, just like the rest of Canadian Industry we are so short of technical
people here, that this place is screaming for people next year. It took me
years to get the kind of connections to get this work, but now it is really
easy because there is not enough skilled people and we cant get the locals to
stay for 4 weeks, they think this place is a holiday camp and whine to go home
after a week, and dont work very much. They have never learned a work ethic,
and have soley relied on hunting and fishing, fighting and breeding to keep
their populations alive..They dont understand how economically important this
place is to their future or their grandchildren. It will bring these local
communities into the 21st century with the rest of the world, ( unfortunately
at a loss of part of their heritage)

We need Water technologists, geologists, pipe fitters/plumbers drywallers,
carpenters, mechanics, equipment operators, millwrights, diamond drillers,
electricians, machinists, welders, first aide attendants, marine mammal
biologists, large game biologists, and the list goes on and on.. this is a
world class ore body under development and there is a great deal to do to bring
this on line and then sustain it.. 35 years of mining.. 10 million metric tons
of 68% ore shipped every year.. the largest ore body of it's kind in the world

Just send your applications to the HR email you find at www.baffinland.com,
they will look at it and forward it on to the right departments

Google any of the below:

Boart Longyear needs Drillers/ Drillers helpers, North/South Consultants (
Winnipeg) for biologists, Medic North( Yellowknife) for first aide Baffinland
for Geologists, Knight Piesold for Geotechs,

Tundra Site Services Edmonton needs all kinds of skilled trades people for all
the mining operations in the northern canada regions.. Diavik, E'Kati,Tahera,
DeBeers, a whole lot of other places

The Canadian Government is now starting to streamline working immigration
processes to get skilled people here and recognize their talents. There are
many Iranian Geologists here that have recently come over.

My cousins are coming from UK to Alberta to work in the Oil field, this country
was built on immigration, we need a hell of a lot more of it, especially
fskilled trades from EU countries..Germany, Holland, Poland, Ukraine, Bosnia,
Croatia, Slovenia..

Feel free to apply!

Cheers.. Tim

You lucky, lucky bastard...
Sounds so much more interesting than what I'm doing these days :-(
Don't worry about the dust - probably won't show.

I'm pooched...I have dust inside my lenses and on my viewfinder, I have
tried everything.. any suggestions..can I fix this myself or do I have to
take it in to get cleaned? How do I prevent this from happening again.. I
use this thing in the field all day long..

FYI: my trip in Baffin island..
If this thing isnt a full blown mine in 3 years. I'll be very surprised...
68% iron in the ground.. nothing grows here..just red and black rocks..they
say 35 years of mining..I've been asked to come back in March to re-open the
camp and build the new camp for the mine..$$$ dictates..

I'm flying home friday night.. this has been a long and difficult shift,
the camp is like an international airport with flights going in and out day
and night, 3 helicopters flying drill core down and supplies up to the
drillers on the mountain all day long, hercules flying in fuel all night
long, and the skyvan shuttling bodies at 5-6 trips a day back and forth to
Pond Inlet.

Sleep in tents, outhouse for toilet, 3 showers and a full camp of 85
bodies, at least the food is good and plentiful.. imagine watermelon in
Baffin Island, and I got to eat some seal, Caribou, Narwhal and polar bear..
I liked the seal best.. it gives you a rush of warmth, and the vitamin
content was fantastic.. I didnt catch any Char, didnt have time to go
fishing..
There is an inch of snow on the ground now, it is overcast and about -2C,
last year this time it was -25C, so I am glad to be going home now.. I'll
see enough of the cold temps this winter before Egypt.

Cheers.. Tim Randles
