Me too, and I appreciate what I can do with an image before it goes to
the printer but I'm always aware that the price I pay for the
convenience is a reduction in ultimate image quality. Of course most
people don't notice and it's very likely the other tweaks outweigh the
subtle improvements film provides.

The one complaint I got from a paying customer was an MOB (mother of
the bride) who looked at the proof book and announced that the
"pictures our friends made were a lot more colorful." I asked to see
them and they were the typical high contrast, oversaturated, orangey
skin-tone stuff. And yes, the colors were, uh, brighter. I had her
look in a mirror with a friend's print on one side of her face and one
of mine on the other. "Which is a closer match to your actual skin
color?" I asked. She grudgingly admitted it was my print, but "I
still like the brighter colors". I later talked with the bride who
rolled her eyes and told me not to worry. Told me, "She complains
about *everything*!"

I shot interiors for a hotel brochure and was very concerned about the
noise in the the shadows. They never even noticed and ordered
enlargements for their salesperson's sample book.

Both of those jobs were shot with a C@non D30 (not 30D -- you'd think
a multi-billion dollar company could come up with more variations on
model designations) and before noise reduction software was subtle
enough to be useful.
