I double checked the 50/3.5. I have a silver nosed 50/3.5 serial no.
108xxx which only says ZUIKO and the coating definitely reflects light
differently from a later black nosed version which is again labeled
simply ZUIKO with serial no. 262xxx. I'm pretty sure that I sold a
similar silver nosed 50/3.5 which had a higher serial no. than the
above silver nosed 50/3.5

**All lenses labeled simply 'ZUIKO" and that are not fisheye, shift,
zoom or macro, are MC.** is probably the most concise and accurate
statement I've seen.

**All f2 lenses are MC except the early F.ZUIKO 85mm f2.** would be
another good concise statement that is probably more obvious and
doesn't apply to as many lenses.

Thinking a little more about the serial nos.

- 8mm has serial nos. up to about 101,500
- 16mm has serial nos up to about 106,500 or higher
- 20/3.5 has serial nos up to about 204,000 with one reported 300,000
- 20/2 has serial nos up to about 103,000 or higher
- 21/2 has serial nos up to about 104,500 or higher (all black)
- 21/3.5 has serial nos up to about 125,500 or higher (both silver & black)
- 24/2 has serial nos up to about 113,500 or higher (both silver & black)
- 24/2.8 has serial nos up to about 221,500 or higher (both silver & black)
- 28/2 has serial nos up to about 125,000 or ? (both silver & black)
- 28/2.8 has serial nos up to about 377,000 (all black)
- 28/3.5 has serial nos up to about 471,000 (all G.ZUIKO both silver & black)
- 35/2 has serial nos up to about 159,000 (both silver & black)
- 35/2.8 has serial nos up to about 293,500 (silver & black)
the black MC version started over at 100,000
- 40/2 has serial nos up to about 110,000 (all black)
- 50/1.2 has serial nos up to about 116,000 (all black)
- 50/1.4 has serial nos up to about 1,167,000
- 55/1.2 has serial nos up to about 166,500 (all G.ZUIKO both silver & black)
- 80/4 (auto) has serial nos up to about 117,000
- 80/4 (man) has serial nos 200,000 - 206,000
- 85/2 has serial nos up to about 218,000 (silver F.ZUIKO & black ZUIKO)
- 90/2 has serial nos up to about 113,000 ( all black)
- 100/2 has serial nos up to about 108,500 (all black)
- 100/2.8 has serial nos up to about 205,500 (silver E.ZUIKO, black
E.ZUIKO at about 140,000 & ZUIKO at about 185,000)
- 135/2.8 has serial nos up to about 223,000 (silver & black)
- 135/3.5 has serial nos up to about 410,500 (silver E.ZUIKO, black
E.ZUIKO & ZUIKO at 390,000?)
- 135/4.5 has serial nos up to about 113,000
- 180/2.8 has serial nos 100k - 115k & 200k - 203k (all black)
- 200/4 has serial nos up to about 293,500 (silver E.ZUIKO, black
ZUIKO at 180,000?)
- 200/5 has serial nos up to about 130,500 (silver E.ZUIKO, black
E.ZUIKO at about 111,000 and black ZUIKO at about 125,000)
- 250/2 has serial nos up to about 101,500? (all white?)
- 300/4.5 has serial nos up to about 147,000 ( silver F.ZUIKO, black
F.ZUIKO at about 115,000, black ZUIKO at about 130,000)
- 350/2.8 a seller claimed the black started at 101,000, white ?
- 400/6.3 serial nos up to about 103,000 (silver E.ZUIKO, black ZUIKO)
- 500/8 serial nos up to about 104,500 ?
- 600.6.5 serial nos up to about 102,000 (silver F.ZUIKO 10016x, black
ZUIKO MC 100,76x, black ZUIKO 101,81x)
- 1000/11 serial nos up to about 103,500? (silver E.ZUIKO, black ZUIKO MC)

Perhaps the 35/2.8 is the only lens to start the serial no. sequence
over at 100,000 when going to black ZUIKO MC. I think there were black
G.ZUIKO at higher serial nos. but couldn't verify it tonight.
