Er, Ken?

Are you sure the card's "write protected"? My fuzzy, rapidly-aging
memory banks took umbrage at the idea that CF cards can be
write-protected, and after checking several sources on the 'Net, I've
come to the conclusion that the memory banks were right to do so.

There's no "write protect" schema for CF cards, as far as I remember (or
can tell). You can protect individual images on a CF card in the E-1 by
displaying the image on the LCD screen and then pressing the PROTECT
button (the one that has the symbol of a green key) just below the
screen. But even the E-1 manual states that if you attempt to re-format
a CF card, you'll lose the "protected" image, 'cause it's a write
operation that cannot be applied selectively or prevented. There's also
no mention of an overall "write protect" function that the E-1 can apply
to the CF card as a whole.

If you're having trouble with the card, something else is wrong, I think.
