I've been wondering, does everyone ship their cameras to John or Clint?
I

know there are a lot of listmembers from Europe who have several of OM

bodies, shipping it out and back into EU seems expensive.

<snip>. Are there any good alternatives inside the EU?

I have two OM bodies that are perfectly usable as they are now but
needing

minor repair/CLA, and I don't trust the local repairmen enough :) Would
be

very grateful for any advice.

Hello,

Sorry for my late reply, but I am on the digest. I don't know where you
are located, but most pointers were for repair guys in the UK. I have
two possibilities on the mainland.

I have use Olympus's own service in the Netherlands about 10 years ago,
after I droped my OM-2n plus winder and flash. Service time was about 6
weeks and expensive. Luckily the travel insurance paid for all expenses
except the long waiting time. BTW The winder2 came back damaged more
than I sent it away with. I had to reship and wait again. This time the
whole set came back within two week though. All thes troubles made me
decide not to go the royal route again.

Since then I have dealt with Jaap Korten in Rotterdam several times. His
return times are mostly within two weeks, especially if you call him
first, and his rates are quite low in my opinion. I have let him repair
several lenses over the years. Usually complete CLA (or building an
80mm/2 from only a heap of metal and glass I bought on the Internet)
costs about EUR 40,--, including his shipping. Jaap Korten is the man
behing wide-angle who sold the 16mm to Olaf Greve to celebrate the
"silver" 25th TOPE event. I also know Jaap from the camera fairs in the
Netherlands. He buys end sell Olympus exclusively. To my knowledge Jaap
is not an official repairman, but has another daytime business. He is
quite knowledgeable about the whole OM-system however. www.wide-angle.nl

Another option in the Netherlands is Haspel Camera services. They are a
bit bigger and specialised in the repair of older cameras. I have only
dealt with them when I bought something from them at a camera fair
(T-32+BG2 for HFL 175,-- (now EUR 80,--) IIRC, little fang). They are
highly regarded however by the Dutch Camera Magazine, which is also
specialised in photo equipment. On their site, I see they also do
service for Olympus Netherlands and some other firms.

Hope this helps,

Wiliam
