This is more common than not, according to my repairman.
I had a totally pristine OM-1MD I retrieved from the person I gave it 
to, almost 30 years ago!
Lovely camera. It was still pristine when I got it back, but when I had 
problems getting my CRIS battery converter to work, I took it to the 
repairman.

He took the bottom plate off (of course!) and found corrosion had wicked 
it's way along the feed wire, and when he touched it, it fell apart!

Absolutely no visible signs of any corrosion from the clean, shiny 
battery compartment.

Something to consider...
