You're right. Rebates are usually handled by a third party. There are
two big rebate houses out there. I used to work as a manager at an
Office Max and was charge of handling all of the rebate problems. It
involved calling the appropriate rebate house. They would tell me that
it was either "still processing" or that there was some reason that it
could not be fulfilled (missing UPC, etc). We could try arguing with
them about the denials, but we would many times have to fill the denied
rebates out of a discretionary fund set aside for that purpose.

A huge number of customers came to us with rebate issues. I'm certain
and even greater number had problems but never contacted us. I was
suspicious that contracting agreements with these rebate houses include
clauses about how liberal to be on the acceptance procedures.

To make this less OT, Olympus probably does use one of these rebate
houses. They may or may not have staff experienced in dealing with
them, but know that if you call Olympus, they will just be acting as a
go-between to the rebate house. There may be a number for you to call
the rebate house directly. If you search, you should be able to easily
identify by the address you sent the form to which rebate house is
handling the Olympus claims.

Olympus' rebate performance hasn't been good this year. I sent in for
TWO rebates on new E Series gear, on the same form (which they indicate
is OK) and got only one. No idea why the other was never fulfilled.

These are usually handled by a third party, often times in El Paso, TX
and I
suspect it is the third party most of the time rather than Olympus. I
could
be wrong and I've had very good luck with my rebates, however they were
all
a couple years ago. Bill Barber
