I've had the pleasure of seeing Gordon's Isle Royale pictures
and a couple of yours. I absolutely agree with your assessment.
That one evening out on the dock, we all were photographing the
moon and the reflections on the water. Here we were, all within
20 feet of each other and nobody was pointing their cameras in
the same direction.

Here's an example photograph from the previous night:

I don't think any of you captured this shot. (probably for good
reason as I do more abstract than most people). Is it
manipulated from reality? This photograph was taken three
minutes earlier with a different lens, pointed almost just a bit
more to the southwest:

Twelve minutes later I shot this one pointed SSE:

But between the two, I shot this one:

Which one is closest to the "original scene"? Does it matter?
No. Which one is representative of my personal vision of the
scene? If you know me, you know the answer to that.

Your pinhole picture of those Texas Wildflowers is hanging
proudly in my office at the cube-farm. My wife refuses to allow
it to grace the walls of anywhere in the house. Why? Because
without her contact lenses, that's exactly how her world looks!
