Ok Thanks Chuck
Not having owned a digital SLR - I know little about them (which makes
choosing one sooo much more difficult on a small budget). I know that the
pixel count isn't the be all and end all of digitals. My 2 MP Olympus
Camedia compact takes reasonable pictures that are adequate for standard
snaps/prints. I've owned more film SLRs than I care to think about. My Canon
A1 and Olympus OM2 take great pictures - but are unsuitable for some of the
things I have in mind. I'm not impressed with the results of negative
scanners either. The Fujis are/were attractive because I can afford to buy
one of them brand new without any further saving. I can just about afford a
quality s/h entry level DSLR such as a Pentax *Ist, Nikon D50 or Canon
300D/350D with, say, 18-55mm standard lens. Or something similar. So I think
I will look at what the camera exchange shops have to offer first - my Town
doesn't have one unfortunately :(, but there are some towns and cities
nearby that do.
My Paypal account is screwed due to split with my partner (who the Visa card
belonged to) and, following my recent probs with the eekbay seller I'm
loathe to send off another cheque. I will have a digital SLR or digicam one
way or another soon. I think the Fujis looked so attractive being an hassle
free buy from a shop that's part of a reputable national chain. I think it
was Ali who offered me an affordable s/h Olympus E500 offlist but I'm loathe
to send a cheque (or other payments) for £300+ to the USA. If he lived in
the UK, it wouldn't be a problem. I'd just come and collect it and pay cash
:)
So I think I'll take a visit to the towns and cities near my town and look
in the camera exchange shops where I can at least test the camera on offer
to some extent, collect and pay in person. I know beggars can't be choosers
lol - but I sold my OM 10, 20, 30, OM2 SP and Minolta 7000 to raise the cash
for the digital - figuring I've still got my classic OM2, recently bought A1
and STX1 for film photography. The A1 is lacking at lenses having only a
prime 200 MM Soligor f4.5 at the moment. For £30 I can get either a Canon FD
28mm wa plus a FD 50mm standard Canon lens for it from a friend of mine - or
get a motor winder and Kiron 28 - 85mm, F2.8-3.8 Canon fit lens from the guy
I bought the A1 off. I've looked through the Canon wa and standard lenses of
my friend and they are lovely bits of glass as you'd expect from Canon. One
of the attractions of a 300D or 350D is that I can use llenses from the A1
on it. So the 350D on eekbay seemed the ideal buy. Anyway, enough about my
probs. The main thing is I'll have a digital camera soon and make the
selling of the OMs worthwhile.
Allan

PS No trees were harmed in the sending of this message and a very large
number of electrons were asked their permission to be terribly
inconvenienced. (And threw a party for them afterwards for being really cool
about it).

Disrupting the unnatural balance that you, as a conscious human being and a
confused mass of energy, have created.
