I also believe that the gradual uprezzing is an unsupportable myth.  If 
I have to do some uprezzing I use Picture Window Pro which seems to do 
as well or better than anything else I've used.  I once had a discussion 
with Jonathan Sachs, author of PW Pro, and asked him why some people 
believed that gradual uprezzing did a better job.  He said he had no 
idea and suggested that maybe they hadn't implemented their own 
algorithms properly.

ps: Although I believe the gradual uprez thing is a myth I don't think 
Butzi's choice of a resolution chart can prove the case for a real-world 
continuous color image.

pps:  Interesting historical note: Jonathan Sachs is also the co-founder 
of Lotus Develeopment Corp. and the original programmer for Lotus 1-2-3.
