I think you are right on with your initial question. I think the real
issue is what is your time worth. Do you REALLY want to spend your
time printing, or would your time be better spend doing other things?
It seems to me that professionals are having to do more and more work
that they did not in the past. If you are sorting, processing
calibrating, scaling, trimming, mounting & printing all your images
yourself will you still have time to get new jobs and actually take
the pictures? It seems to me that your most likely better off using
your talents where they will benefit you the most (getting and
completing jobs) and let someone else do the printing. With digital
you are already pretty much obligated to do the 'processing' and it
may be worthwhile in terms of control, but I am not so sure about the
printing process.
