Why don't you just increase the font size in Mail? That is what I
did. Fonts selection and size is in the Mail preferences.
As far as doing a web page I would think changing the resolution on
your monitor for a quick editorial look for size and readability
would not be a big deal even if the text is a little fuzzy. I just
changed the resolution on mine and that Adobe display technology that
Apple uses in OS X is really good. I don't see how the difference
would be significant in creating a web page.
If you have the room a small second monitor might be fun though and
not very costly. Even a bargain basement one would be good enough to
display email, web pages, and Photoshop palettes.
My prints don't look like transparencies on a light table either. :-)
