When silver oxide button cells were young, they could be made either 
with low current capacity and very low likelihood of leakage or with 
high current capacity and greater incidence of leakage. As watchmakers 
were the major early users, leakage was a big no-no. So many were made 
in two versions, low and high drain, with identical dimensions and 
different construction. Watch makers could then specify a battery number 
that would assure low leakage. The original problem is past, but the 
naming confusion lives on. You can pretty much use high drain models to 
replace low drain models

One of these pairs is the 303 and 357 and there are several others. 
Energizer recently combined them into one model, 303/357. Unfortunately, 
the discharge curve is more like the 303 than the 357, although they are 
still rated for high drain. It simply means that they will reach the 
voltage level that causes electronic shutter OMs to lock up earlier than 
the old 357. Not a BIG thing, but annoying.

The Renata 303 discharge curve is wonderful, but only speced at .189 ma, 
with no mention of intermittent high current use. So it may or may not 
be a good battery for OMs. Looking at the spec. sheets for Energizer, 
you will see that the 303/357 is rated at a higher current, .238 ma and 
specified for "USE ON CONTINUOUS LOW DRAIN (HIGH PULSE ON DEMAND)", such 
as running a meter most of the time, then running a shutter

Whether the Renata 303 would preform well compared to a true 357 or 
SR-44W in camera use could only be determined by testing.

However, I do see that Energizer has introduced a new 303/357H, with a 
significantly longer flat discharge curve

perform better than the Renata, or any, 303 for OM use.
