I must confess that the thing which pushed me over the line on hooking up
the hard drive for back up, was my computer got all gummed up and I was going
to
need to have the computer magician un-gum it. I couldn't open or run
Norton anti-virus and the only way I could open Microsoft Word was in "safe
mode."
All of this probably makes sense to many on the list however to me it is
all Greek (with a bit of geek mixed in for good measure.) My hard drive also
seemed to be making some noises on start up that didn't make me too excited.
The hard drive is probably 12-18 months old. The short version of the
remainder of the story is that I contacted plumchoice.com (because of their
advertising on XM radio) and after a couple of their folks remotely worked
with my
computer for about 3 hrs over a 2 day period, it all seems to be fixed. Thank
goodness for magicians . . . or perhaps folks who are both much younger and
smarter than I am.
Part of the fix was uninstalling Norton, which I've had running for many
years with no problems. When I asked the tech about reinstalling Norton, he
said he would suggest CA Anti-virus, as he sees frequent problems such as mine
from folks using Norton. He made no hard sale, although the product was
available from them. So my question is, "What anti-virus program, that is
easy to
use, are folks using." My particular version of Norton is Internet Security
2006. My inclination is to reinstall Norton, however am open to the
collective wisdom of this group. <{8^) Bill Barber
