If I remember correctly the technique that I used was to use a 
syringe to soak the sponge with Windex, almost to the point of 
overfilling its tray.  Then, you to turn the printer off and it parks 
the head on the sponge and the Windex breaks down the ink on both the 
head and on the sponge.  Let it sit overnight and then soak up the 
Windex from the sponge with a paper towel and run several sheets of 
plain paper through the printer to be sure there's no residue on the 
head.  This technique will also work for those stubborn head clogs on 
the 1270-1280 series of printers.
