I can only offer a partial answer - I bought a 24" Dell LCD for my
parents. They run it at a fairly low resolution so that the type will
be large (80+ year old eyes). I've never noticed any problems with it
while looking at yaBe pictures. The resolution they run at is low
enough that I can read the screen across the room (about 10 feet away)

The LCD they have is an older model than what Dell is currently
selling. I believe the older LCD actually offered higher resolution
than the current one. I can't understand why a LCD would be worse at
lower resolution as long a something bizaare, such as increasing the
scan rate, isn't done. I guess if the driver is trying to smooth
tansitions across multiple pixels then it might look softer.
