Bob, are you using Windows XP.
Windows XP has a mode called ClearType.
It will make the type on flat-panels much sharper.
To find ClearType, right-click on an empty area of the desktop. Click
Properties. Select the Appearance tab and click Effects. Check the box
next to "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts."
Then select ClearType.
You still have to fine-tune ClearType.
Go here and follow the wizard and select the best looking type.
