Funny ; according to the web page, widespread use started in mid- late 90s, 
but I vividely recall hearing that phrase when I went to the USA in 1988. At 
the time I was a bit caught off balance, because essentially I was learning 
'schoolbook' english, and it clearly didn't belong there (that, and a couple 
other words or phrases most of which have very limited scope of use, albeit 
interesting power of evocation).
