Brian,

I've had one of these for about a year now (the 5400 II version). No
technical problems & the results are certainly better than I get from my
Epson flatbed. It can be quite slow if scanning at full resolution but it's
easy to batch scan 4/6 frames at a time (using viewscan - don't really know
about the software which came with it). Certainly recommend it if the price
is right.
