I think it's most likely down to the OT lens he used. Noctilux? Probably
came as a kit lens with a Seagull SLR. From what I recall the Noctilux only
gives acceptable images if stopped down to f/1.2

After a second look I don't think it's oversharpened but I do think it's too
contrasty or maybe the JPEG compression is too high. What I'm looking at is
the buildings just left of center, the trees on the horizon and the two
large evergreens on the right. How do I measure this? It doesn't look
right to my eye... but I'm having a hard time deciding what's the problem.
As to sharpening with USM you can go with what looks right for screen use
but for printing it needs to look a little crunchy on screen if it's going
to look correct on paper.
