In 40 years of camera ownership I've never had an attempt to steal any camera 
gear from my person or vehicle, but have had 2 camera bags stolen (in 1 
burglary) from the house.

I had an OM-1 accidently pulled off a bench onto the kitchen floor, no apparent 
damage and the camera is still working fine 30years since !  Never dropped a 
lens, even when juggling 2 lenses, caps  & a body.
